Our Spanish football tipster makes an argument for
backing the in-form Manchester City midfielder to continue his excellent
scoring run in Amsterdam on Tuesday
It has been nearly two years and 21 matches since Spain played out a
goalless draw and, while their recent games have not been particularly
high-scoring, there will be enough attacking quality on the pitch
against Netherlands to lead punters to the goalscorers market. The Spanish national side has been bereft of a natural scorer since David Villa lost favour, although the emergence of Alvaro Morata could change that.
The former Real Madrid striker is the top scorer in the history of the Spain Under-21 side and got off the mark for the senior team on Friday, netting the winner in their 1-0 victory over Ukraine. He is likely to get more minutes in Amsterdam and leads the betting along with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to score first at 6/1 (7.00) with bet365.
Yet the way Spain play means that their central forward is not necessarily more likely to find the back of the net than some of the attack-minded midfielders. It remains to be seen who Vicente del Bosque picks, given this is a friendly and he may be more inclined to experiment, but the likes of Isco and David Silva could be of much more interest in the scorers market.
Both players started the match against Ukraine and both are priced at 10/3 (4.33) to score at any time, with that looking generous for Silva in particular.
The Manchester City man is in the best domestic scoring form of his career having already netted 11 Premier League goals this campaign, while for the national side his record of 22 goals means that, if he plays, he will be the top-scoring Spaniard on the pitch.
The Dutch, for their part, boast attacking players that, as Spain know all too well, can do real damage yet their poor Euro 2016 qualifying campaign means confidence is low and they will be without established names such as Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben once more.
Wesley Sneijder saved the side's blushes against Turkey three days ago - via a deflection off Huntelaar - and if the Galatasaray man features on Tuesday he will become the most capped Dutchman ever. He can be backed at a romantic 11/1 (12.00) to score first and 15/4 (4.75) to score at any time.
But for a decent value bet the price for David Silva remains the most attractive option, given also that he has scored in two of Spain's last four games. Friendly matches are often tricky to call so a small investment in a slightly higher-priced player is probably the best bet.
